It's been a few weeks since I concluded my semester abroad and the 'semester in London Town' blog that went along with it. Before I get into my upcoming adventure, let me tell you what I've been up to since I returned to good ol' America.

That's right. NOTHING. an extra large nothing, with a side of nothing with nothing on top. That is excluding the 3 days I spent in Puerto Rico recently with my dad on his business trip, which I will admit, was a great 3 days of beautiful sun, beautiful language and a beautiful country. How quickly those 3 days went by, though. But not without getting a lobster sunburn and the sunglasses lines on my face to prove that, no Jen, you will never EVER tan.
Some photos from my PR trip...
So here I am, with 6 days to go until I pack up and move to the big apple for 2 months. See ya later Shrewsbury, see ya working at Macy's, see ya same old boring summers. wouldn't want to be ya. Honestly, NYC is the closest thing to my past European awesome life, and I am so so incredibly thrilled to be spending my summer there. I am looking forward to meeting people from all over the country and world, I'm excited to be in such a melting pot. NYC is the most happening city in the the states and I get to spend 2 months there! yay!
Some of you know why I'm going, but for those of you wondering, I was accepted into the American Society of Magazine Editors summer internship program, which sets interns up at various magazines in the city. I will be working at Sports Illustrated this summer!!

For you guys out there, Sports Illustrated to you is.. only about the swimsuit edition. And if you google Sports Illustrated, you end up with a bunch of images of swimsuit models. But lucky for me, SI just ran their swimsuit edition and therefore, I don't have to feel awkward!! hoorah!!
I am yet to hear from my SI editor about my job responsibilities, but I am sure it involves fact checking and more fact checking. And when it comes to sports and statistics, there are a lot, and I mean A LOT of facts to check. And with SI being a weekly magazine, I'm going to be B-U-S-Y. From what I hear though (from a past intern's blog), I have Tuesday and Wednesday off, but I have to work Sunday. booooo to the loss of a real weekend, but yay to a mid-week break. Also, yay to this being a paid internship so I can afford to live in New York!
I am thanking my lucky stars, along with some years of hard journalism work, for getting such a great internship. This. is. awesome.
I'll be shacking up at the NYU senior dorms, which are located in Greenwich Village, aka a really nice part of the city, with so much to do! There are 30 or so of us ASME interns, and most of us seem to be living at the NYU dorms. I will have 5 roomies, Rheanna, Kirsten, Rosie, Marissa and Lizzie! I would be nervous to have so many roomies, but now that I think about it, I won't have homework or studying to do, so it will be a fun, social atmosphere. Can't wait!
AND I have a whole lineup of visitors coming to see me this summer, which will be great!! Lauren and Marie will both be making the trek from Chicago and D.C., respectfully, for my birthday weekend on June 18!!! It's been way too long since I've seen both of them, and these are two girls I am guaranteed to have the best time with. :) :)
Although I'll be spending countless hours behind a desk at the SI offices, I'll have plenty of time to explore the city, have fun with my new intern friends and basically, just have the summer of a lifetime. After being abroad for 4 months, this is exactly what I need to keep me going. That is, until I get a dose of reality going back to Marquette where I will be a SENIOR.... meaning, time to find a career! yikes. not ready for it. I want to be young and adventurous forever!
so here's to my summer of working toward my journalism career via a great internship, meeting new people, making new friends, exploring, living (not just visiting) in NYC and being young (cough, and single).
