"In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made, oh
There's nothing you can't do, now you're in New York
These streets will make you feel brand new
Big lights will inspire you, let's hear it for New York"

I know it may sound super corny, but I feel like the chorus of "Empire State of Mind" sums up everything this summer in the city is for me. NYC is where I'm going to make my magazine dreams come true, or at least where I will work toward my career dreams. NYC is full of opportunity and the vastness of the city, its bright lights and never sleep attitude really is inspiring. Sometimes when you sit in a journalism class, or are stuck in the offices of your school publication, you kind of lose motivation or belief that oh hey, maybe I don't have to settle for a small town newspaper or another field of study... I can be more than just a student journalist. I'm tired of hearing about the bleakness of journalism jobs. Someone's gotta apply, someone's gotta get the job, and someone's gotta do it. And I want it to be me.

Interning in Manhattan, in the heart of magazine journalism will be that confidence boost I need to finish off my senior year at Marquette and get into the journalism industry.

Sorry if that was a big load of inspirational mumbo jumbo. I'm just excited!
